Reality

We were on a cruise last weekend.  At dinner our last night our server Edith asked if we were sad that tomorrow we had to go back to reality.  Everybody at our table, and probably everybody else on the boat, agreed with her but that question hit me a lot more seriously than even I expected.  While the expected answer she probably always gets is “Yes” I shocked her when my reply was “No.  I love my reality”.

After she took a few jabs at me (she was awesome in that she could dish it out as quickly as I could give it to her) we laughed and she walked away.  I spent the rest of that night in awe of my reality.

My reality is that I live to worship and serve and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.  My reality is I get to be a husband, a father, a son and a friend to many.  My reality is I get to be an important part of the lives of so many people and I have the amazing opportunity to be a part of Christ to them.  I can say that there’s no boat, no buffet, no excursion, no beautiful oceanic scenery that is better than that.

We choose our reality.  We choose how we face our realities.  We choose how we react and handle adversities.  We make our own reality.  I’m at peace and in love with mine through the good and the bad.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.  Romans 8:28

That’s my reality.  What’s yours?
