Think I Got It Now – Revisiting a past posting.

I was looking back through some of my pasts posts and ran across this one.  I originally wrote this back in April of ’09 and I believed it then.  However, almost a year later it has proven more true than I ever believed it was a year ago.  Enjoy…..

What is God really like?  Here in the US we equate God with financial blessings, good health, a nice house, 2 cars, etc…. That is really insulting to Christians around the world.  I read about sold out followers of Jesus who live off of $20 US a month.  People can support children for $32 a month through Compassion and other great ministries.  We could blow that easily at a fast food restaurant with my family.   That is very convicting.

During the 1980’s, 90’s and the beginning of this Century people got a false sense of God (in my opinion).  How many times have I heard or even said myself that God did….  If someone got a raise it was from God.   If someone sold their house in 1 day it was from God.  If someone was healed it was from God.  Well what about those who have no job?  What about those who can’t sell their home?  What about those who have not been healed here on earth?  Is God not there?   Do they lack faith?

We OK, I have made God into something He never wanted to be–Santa.  Gimme, gimme, gimmie.  Jesus said God would provide for our needs.  He promised to be with us.  But He never promised smooth sailing in life.   No Jesus promised difficulty and persecution for those who follow Him.  Did the Apostle Paul have a 401K?  Did he have mutual funds?  Did he have health insurance?  Did he have a beach house and a nice Camel?  Paul learned the secret of being content in all circumstances. I believe I’m learning that the God we I have made up doesn’t exist.  Jesus said to take up our cross daily–that means death.  So we’ve I’ve been praying for revival and God to show Himself in a powerful way in the US for years.  Maybe He has already shown Himself but we I didn’t recognize Him because He isn’t the US God we’ve I’ve made up. Maybe our my God has distorted us  me from seeing the real God of the Bible.

 What do you think?
